Russian Foreign Ministry Confirms Lavrov-Pompeo Meeting in Sochi as Intact

Moscow, May 13 - Despite the suspension of an initially scheduled stop in Moscow from the visit of US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to this country, the Russian Foreign Ministry has clarified on Monday that all the meetings in Sochi remain full time.

Pompeo's meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Sochi will be held as scheduled, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov.
The cancellation of the visit to Moscow, scheduled for Monday, according to Riabkov, is due to strictly personal changes in Pompeo's agenda, who decided to travel to Brussels to discuss the Iranian issue with Europeans.

The Head of US diplomacy will also be welcomed in the southern Russian resort by President Vladimir Putin, the Vice Minister stated.

Pompeo intends to meet the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and International Security of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, on Monday, although the EU bloc has expressed certain astonishment at the unexpected visit.

Lavrov, after meeting his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Sharif in Moscow last week, demanded the United Kingdom, France and Germany to comply with the General Plan of Global Action, signed with Iran in 2015.

The United States withdrew unilaterally from it a year ago and resumed unilateral sanctions against Iran, while the referred European countries promised to create a mechanism to avoid the US restrictions, which still does not work.

Iranian ultimatum to resume its nuclear agenda as issued by the Iranian President is 60 days.
