Moscow, Apr 24 - The maximum leader of the Democratic People''s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong-un, arrived on Wednesday on his armored train in the Russian city of Khasan, where he was welcomed by the Primorie Governor Oleg Kezhemiako.

Also present at the red-carpet welcome were the minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexander Kozlov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Margulov. Kim was accompanied by ministers and advisors from his government.

Later, the North Korean leader went to the Russia-Korea Friendship House, also visited by the late DPRK leader Kim Il Sung in 1986.

After visiting Khasan, the armored train will change railroads in Tumangou, from the North Korean standard of 1,435 millimeters to the Russian standard of 1,520 millimeters, to proceed on the trans-Siberian track of Ussurik to Vladivostok, where Kim will meet on Thursday with President Vladimir Putin.

At the Vladivostok meeting, the two statesmen will review bilateral relations and the issues related to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Monday.

Sources quoted by the newspaper Kommersant pointed out that the talks, to be held in the campus of the Federal University of Vladivostok, on the island of Rusky, will also deal with economic-commercial relations between the two countries.

Bilateral trade decreased 56 percent in late 2018, to 34 million dollars.
