#JusticeForKolade : 8th Senate remains committed to the passage of the #PoliceReformBill to ensure that our Police Force is more efficient and responsive - Saraki

Kolade Johnson
The Presidency and the Nigerian Senate have expressed “deepest condolences to the family and friends” of Kolade Johnson, a football fan, who was shot dead by policemen from the Anti-Cultism Unit (SARS) of Lagos State

The Presidency wrote on Twitter: “Deepest Condolences to the family and friends of Kolade Johnson, victim of the March 31 fatal shooting in Lagos. @PoliceNG have assured that the Team suspected of involvement in the shooting have been apprehended & are undergoing disciplinary procedure. Updates will be provided,” the tweet added.

The Nigerian Police's CRU has officially registered the unfortunate death of Mr Kolade Johnson as a case of Excessive Use of Force with Tracking No. # CRU275741 . @ PoliceNG Lagos State is treating it as a homicide, CP Lagos will brief the public on this case as very soon. ACP @ YomiShogunle confirms to the public.

The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has also expressed his condolence to the family and friends of Kolade Johnson, promissing that the Senate fast track the Police Reform Bill.
Saraki Wrote on his Facebook page:

My heartfelt prayers are with the family and friends of Kolade Johnson, the young football fan who was killed by men of the Nigerian Police in Mangoro/Onipetesi community in Lagos.
Issues like the senseless killings, assault and extortion of everyday Nigerians by some ‘bad apples’ in the Police Force prompted the Nigerian Senate to introduce and fast-track the progression of the #PoliceReformBill.
Make no mistake, the 8th Senate remains committed to the passage of the #PoliceReformBill to ensure that our Police Force is more efficient and responsive to the needs of all Nigerians.
I have also been in contact with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, and I am pleased to announce that the Report of the Bill will be laid by next week Tuesday.

Nigeria state failed Kolade Johnson by enabling a system where a policeman could murder him when he did nothing wrong. Nigeria must not fail him again by failing to punish his murderer.

Three of the Nigerian Police officers have been arrested so far according to the police statement.

Johnson’s death occurred when an unmarked commercial bus visited Mangoro/Onipetesi community in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city, on Sunday afternoon in search of youths dressed wildly and rocking dreadlocks.

In an attempt to disperse a crowd which had gathered during the raid, one of the police operatives shot dead Johnson, who was trying to leave the scene after watching English Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham.
